10 Questions with Bruno and Alex from Nude Project

As a Shopify Expert Agency, we’re lucky enough to work with some incredible, energetic start-ups who are working hard to bring their unique ideas to life.

Nude Project is a ready-to-wear label founded in 2019 by two friends eager to create something different. Bruno and Alex had completely different backgrounds – one was from Bali, the other from Burgos. But they had an instant connection that led them to the joint movement that would change their lives forever.

This week, we had the pleasure of interviewing Bruno and Alex, the founders of Nude Project. We asked them 10 questions to find out more about the company and the advice they would give to other Shopify start-ups in the early stages of their project.

Hi Bruno and Alex! How did you come up with the idea for Nude Project?

We created Nude Project in 2019 from our rooms in the students’ residence, after getting to know each other via social media.

We quickly realised we shared a vision of doing things differently and being able to reach many people. And we knew that we wanted to do something where the content was the ‘main character’. In the end, we opted to create a streetwear fashion brand that represents us completely, with a style that we love, and we know how to sell.

And so the brand was born, creating designs for t-shirts and sweatshirts, initially for our friends. We were doing something totally different, and that’s what helped us grow so quickly in the early days. In just one year, it went from being a university project to the fastest growing streetwear brand in Spain.

How many people are in your team?

We have a team of 11 very talented people. We trust every member of our team and feel that, together, we can really expand and develop the business. We also like to outsource many of the services we need – this means we can work with a wide range of experienced people who can help us professionalise our company.

What makes Nude Project stand out from your competitors?

Unlike our competitors, we launch capsule collections almost every month, with detailed, unique content. Our designs and products also break away from what is usually seen in streetwear fashion.

Aside from the products themselves, we also use our social networks differently from more traditional brands. We’ve found a format that allows us to connect with our community in a very personal way.

Do you believe there is a formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?

The most important things are constant hard work, the support of a great team, and having the digital business element, which is key to growing a community in the 2021 space.

There’s definitely a pattern in the mindset of entrepreneurs – passion, hard work, curiosity, and empathy are key to success!

What do you attribute your success to?

Our passion for what we do and loving the process so much has been the key to our success.

Oh, and having the best developer in the world since day one has helped a lot too!

How do you promote your business and products?

Social media has been our best ally. From day one, we knew that focussing on generating content and using Instagram and TikTok in a fresh and new way would be our key differentiator in an extremely saturated industry. The online community has been the driving force behind the business – we’ve based our entire strategy of drops on the concept of hype.

How important are influencers for fashion retail shops?

It’s always been a dream to see the people who inspire us the most wearing our clothes. It’s been incredibly helpful to have well-known faces, actors, singers, and influencers wearing our designs.

These people value authenticity a lot, and that’s something they can see we offer as a brand. We have always approached this marketing channel in a very organic way – we’ve never paid anyone to wear our clothes. And whenever we’ve sent out clothes, we’ve never asked for anything in return.

What do you love about Shopify and is there anything you’d like to change?

We love absolutely everything! But, if we had to change something, it would be the ability to edit the checkout page so we could add more information about shipping times.

What three pieces of advice would you give to someone just starting out?

  1. Self-awareness – figure out what you love and what you’re good at.
  2. Hard work – you need to be obsessed with your project if you want to succeed.
  3. Be happy! – prioritise your own happiness over everything.

Finally, where do you see Nude Project in 5 years?

We want to become a leading, innovative, global lifestyle brand. We would like to open at least two stores – one in Madrid and the other in Barcelona.
