How to Create Pages with an Offline Theme in Shopify
Objective
This SOP outlines the steps to create and manage templates in Shopify, ensuring that team members can effectively resolve issues related to offline template creation.
Key Steps
1. Identifying the Issue with Offline Templates
Watch from 0:11- Understand that creating a template offline means it won’t be available on the Shopify backend.
- Check if the created template appears in the Pages section.
2. Determine Shopify Version
Watch from 1:17- Go to the live template in Shopify.
- Navigate to Pages and check for the ‘Create Template’ option.
- If available, you are using Shopify 2.0.
3. Creating a Template in Shopify 2.0
Watch from 1:36- Create a new template with the same name as the offline template (e.g., TestM).
- Save the template without recreating all previous work.
4. Previewing the Template
Watch from 2:15- Click ‘View’ to preview the template.
- Refresh the dashboard to see changes reflected.
5. Handling Shopify 1.0 Templates
Watch from 2:56- If using a 1.0 template, you cannot create new pages from the team customizer.
- Copy the text from the offline template to ensure format consistency.
6. Backup Before Editing

- Click ‘Do Backup’ to save the current state.
7. Editing the Template Code

- Create a new file named ‘page.TestM.liquid’ (replace ‘TestM’ with your template name).
- Copy the default code from ‘page.liquid’ and paste it into your new file.
8. Saving the New Template

9. Creating Other Types of Templates

- For articles, use ‘article.’ and for blog listings, use ‘blog.’.
