Manchester has a fair claim to being the UK's real ecommerce capital. Boohoo, PrettyLittleThing and Missguided all scaled from here, which means the city has a concentration of agencies who have worked at genuine volume, and a talent pool that London does not monopolise.
1. MM Shopy Devs
We are not a Manchester agency, and we will not pretend to be. We started in London in 2017 and work from Barcelona, with the UK as our largest market. What we do have is a long relationship with Manchester manufacturing: Private White V.C., who still make everything in their Salford factory, are a client, and their move from Magento to Shopify is one of the projects we are most proud of.
Where we are strong
- Shopify only, and always have been. Never a WordPress or Magento agency that added Shopify later. Every project since 2017 has been on this platform.
- Premium and heritage British brands. Outerwear, tailoring, knitwear, jewellery. The problems those brands have, sizing, returns, made-to-order, international duty on high-value goods, are ones we have solved repeatedly rather than ones we would meet on your project.
- A boutique team. The senior people who scope your build are the ones who build it. No juniors, no account layer.
Where we are the wrong choice
- We do not build ERP, PIM, warehouse or accounting integrations, or the API work between them. Manchester has a lot of brands running serious warehouse and stock systems, and if connecting yours is central to the project, you need someone who does that work.
- We only take the work we can do properly. Few projects at a time, on purpose. If you need to start next week, we may not be able to.
- We are not local. If being able to sit in a room with your agency matters to you, several of the four below have a Manchester office and we do not.
Best for: premium and heritage brands who want senior people on the build and do not need on-site meetings.

Best for: brands wanting a Platinum-level partner with a local office and a genuinely distinctive team culture.
3. MadeByShape
An award-winning Manchester studio known for design-led Shopify work, combining branding and web design with Shopify development and organic SEO.
Best for: brands that need brand identity and store built together, and want SEO handled by the same team. We do not offer SEO, and they do.
4. Flex Commerce
A Shopify Plus agency with offices in Manchester and Liverpool, specialising in bespoke builds, integrations and automation, including custom app development and reporting dashboards.
Best for: brands whose project depends on integrations, automation or custom apps, which is precisely the work we do not take on.
5. Archer Cooper
A boutique Manchester Shopify Plus agency focused on strategy, design and development for DTC brands across the UK and Europe, with direct senior-level access.
Best for: DTC brands wanting a small senior team locally. Our closest equivalent on this list, with the advantage of being in the city.
Choosing in Manchester specifically
Decide whether local matters. It genuinely does for some brands and not at all for others. If you want quarterly sessions in a room, that narrows the list quickly and honestly.
Ask about volume experience. Manchester agencies have often worked with fast-fashion at scale, which is real experience in traffic spikes and catalogue size. Whether that transfers to a premium brand with 200 products is worth asking directly.
Ask what happens with your stock and warehouse systems. More Manchester brands run serious operational systems than the DTC average, and agencies differ enormously in whether they touch that.
